Good old-fashioned sunset

“Nobody of any real culture, for instance, ever talks nowadays about the beauty of sunset. Sunsets are quite old fashioned. To admire them is a distinct sign of provincialism of temperament. Upon the other hand they go on.”

Oscar Wilde

I am a fan of Oscar Wilde since age of 12, so I cannot tell for sure is it his hidden influence or my personal whim that I  have never had a picture of a classic sunset on my wall.  Nevertheless, the images I am going to share today prove that nothing human is alien to me, which is another quote 🙂 . Sunsets and quotes, hope you enjoy them.

“When the sun sets, who doth not look for night?”

“Clouds come floating into my life no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”
Robindranath Tagore

“Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

“To leave out beautiful sunsets is the secret of good taste.”  🙂
Dejan Stojanovic

“What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.”
 Chief Crowfoot

“When I admire the wonder of a sunset, or a  beauty of the moon, my soul expands in worship of the Creator. “
Mahatma Gandhi

“You know – one loves the sunset when one is very very sad…”
Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince
“If your eyes are blinded with your worries, you cannot see the beauty of the sunset.”
 Jiddu Krishnamurti

“Don ‘t forget : beautiful sunsets need cloudy skies.”
Paulo Coelho

All the photographs are taken in different countries over the years.

Tip of the day:  Just sit still and watch. You will know when to take out your camera.

www.inesemjphotography.comHave a good week!

  1. I’m so glad to have found this post. You set it up in such a charming way, and i loved all the quotes — not to mention the beautiful variations on sunsets. This was a treat, Inese. Hugs. 🙂

  2. Time, cycle, place, beauty, life, light – sunsets cause me to stop and just be. Love the combo of pics and contrasting quotes in this piece 🙂

  3. Those where some cool pictures, if I had to pick one I´d pick the last one where you see the shadows of people on the beach and ofcourse the sunset. To me it signifies the end of a day and the beginning of a new day, with more to learn and more to do, and do it better if is possible.

    1. Thank you! I too love that picture, probably because of the good memories.

It is so wonderful the way you speak about the sunset and the following sunrise : a new day to learn more, to do more, and to grow. And more great poetry from you! 🙂

    1. Thank you for stopping by! I know they are still selling well:)… I love them as a part of some action or anything else dramatic, outside the box 🙂

      1. Yes, very dramatic. One of my favorite things to shoot when I’m out and about at that time of day. But I can’t seem to get an aardvark in the scene. Hmmm… 🙂

    1. Thank you so much Andrea, I love to watch them, but I find that most of the images of the sunsets just repeat themselves. I understand that people are overwhelmed with the beauty and want to depict it by the means of photography, but with all the editing the uniqueness is gone. 🙂

      1. But not yours Inese – yours were all very different ways of depicting the sunset. You’re right, sometimes we just see something so beautiful that we have to photograph it, when that photo will never capture its reality. 🙂

        1. You are so right, we just feel like we have to photograph 🙂 We would better sit down and enjoy what we see:)
Another thing is when we focus on something else and the sunset is just happening in
background. It is a little bit different, more fun 🙂

  4. Hi Inese,

Great tip, I love “The Little Prince” and these sunsets and quotes are so enjoyable and thoughtful. Thank you for sharing!

    Emily Grace

  5. Those last four or five shots…amazing! Such wonderful tones and great atmosphere! Especially the grass shot…wow!

    1. Thank you:) I love to watch the sunsets, not to shoot them 🙂 About that grass. Our camera club had an outing, for a sunset photo shoot. When we arrived to the sea shore, everyone got busy with the settings, and composition, but I didn’t see anything of interest. So I just sat in the grass and took some pictures, including this one:) I just loved the colors. 🙂
