New brother

First the sad news. Sweet Minnie the fox followed her sister Grainne to the Rainbow Bridge at the age of eleven. Last time I saw her she was weaker than usual. She died in her sleep like Grainne. Both had a long and happy life.

Run free in heaven, you beautiful girls!

And here is another little soul who needed love and care. Meet Gorta, a 14 weeks old cub named after the famous Kilkenny hurler Martin Comerford’s nickname. In Irish, Gorta means Famine.

Gorta is different colour than the other foxes. He is peach-and-silvery grey with red goggles.

We are sitting outside and Gorta is sniffing the air and perking his ears. His nose never stops moving.

He smelled the ducks grazing in the garden and licked his lips.

A passing car startled him…

…so he did exactly what any other scared baby would do – reached for safety and pressed his little body to Pat.

A universal picture of love and trust.

  2. Sometimes we’d wish our animal friends would live as long as us. It was nice they were loved. Hoping you are well, dear Inese.

    1. Thank you. He is almost grey, with just a shade of peach. It is unclear whether his siblings survived. I wonder if they had the same coloring.

    1. Yes, it is sad they are gone. Minnie was the one to cuddle with 🙂 Gorta and Henry live in separate places. The bigger male would kill the little one. I am sorry for Henry, he is eight and isn’t used to being alone.

  10. So sorry about the loss of Minnie, it’s always so hard to lose a sweet little animal. But it looks like Gorta will be a real joy! What unusual coloration he has!

    1. I loved old Minnie, she was a real pet, anyone could pick her up and she didn’t mind. I hope Gorta will be the same. Yes, very unusual coloration, silver from his youth 🙂 He was born with dark fur though, like any other fox.

    1. Isn’t he ? 🙂 Stuck to Pat like glue, hasn’t been introduced to dog yet, a long way to go until he settles in the household 🙂

    1. Thank you Derrick. I cannot believe he adopted another fox 🙂 It is probably because everybody else gave up on him.

  14. Sorry to here about the the other foxes that died, but the little guy sure is a cutie. What a darling creature!

      1. Syd, I have no idea why this happens. My settings are fine. I never sign out and have no problems commenting on other blogs when using my computer, however I am not able to do it from my phone …The same story – info and all.

    1. Sid – thank you! I am very sad that the old foxes died. But such is life. There is another male fox, 8 years old Henry.
