WORKSPACE BLOG HOP

The Half Eaten Mind and his human Vijay invited me to participate in the Workspace Blog Hop. It means, I have to reveal something about myself and  the place I am blogging from. Thank you, Vijay!

I moved to Waterford city just a month ago, so my working space has not yet achieved a stable and respectable look. My books are still packed, and some of my stuff is sitting in my friends’ garage.  I haven’ t yet decided either I stay here another couple of years, or keep moving.

I have a one-bedroom apartment and work in the living room. This is the table I work at: I prefer my working place being ergonomic rather than comfy. Two windows – on my left and on my right- provide enough light during the day.

A HP laptop, two external hard drives and a handful of USB memory cards  – it is all I use for writing, editing, storing and carrying around my files. Plus a printer and a scanner.

This is a fragment of a surface, random. All the surfaces in this room look similar 🙂 Except my table. The table is bare: I have pushed things off the table with my elbows enough to learn the lesson.

So, this is pretty much everything about my working space.

I don’t have any pets – it is enough to ask my friends to take care of my cacti plants when I am away. I have 17 cacti plants.

I would love to have a pet though. Any critter.

My new contract forbids me to keep “any living creature” in this apartment. Yes, it is a quote.

I live in the medieval center of  Waterford city, next to the oldest buildings. One day I will make a separate blog about Waterford, but for now I just want to report that it was a great sunny morning here, and I walked through the city center for my “cardio with a camera” and took this picture.

And this one too: it is a shop across from where I live, and it is reflection of my car in the window.

Sure I am moving around for my photography rather than stay at home.  Sometimes  I am lucky enough to get an assistant for the test-shoots.

Now you have an idea about my blogging  space and the world around it. I might also add  that this is mostly a pedestrian zone, clean and quiet. Most of the noise is coming from the Cathedral when they are ringing their bell:)

Photography tip of the day:  When you store your files the names of your folders matter a lot. Start with a year followed by a month; then write a key word/words so that you know what is there in that particular folder. Don’t make huge folders;  divide them in parts:  2014-05-30 Moab – Devils Garden-Part I

    1. Thank you so much, Olga! I too love to know where the bloggers work from. We don’t have to spill all the beans here, but it is no harm to reveal some secrets and leave the rest to imagination 🙂

  5. Great photos. I like your work space. I blog with my ipad on my lap, sitting on my sofa with my feet propped up. A cup of tea on the side table,,and the tv on for back noise. Crazy, but effective. Nice to see your world.

    1. That’s a nice setting! 🙂 Most important – it works perfectly! I started using a regular kitchen table and a regular chair two years ago. I feel that it is better for my back, and also it doesn’t let me build up clutter around myself:). Everyone have their secrets 🙂

  6. I finally saw your tools for making the birds stand still while you take a picture of them. Although I have to disagree on one thing with you, I like comfy work places….nice wooden brown table, soft light at nigh, just the opposite from where I´m writing right. That hamster……..why would you want to have that thing running around the house. Probably it would scare the bejesus out of me.

    So always traveling…..I would like to have that type of life at on point in my life I guess.

    1. Hi! No, my main tool was in my hands when I took the pictures:) I just posted a little fragment of my room: all these bits and pieces are sitting on my tables and other furniture, including my sofa – I don’t use the soft furniture for sitting 🙂 Don’t think you would like my life…
      Now I will go and check out what have you written over the weekend 🙂

    1. Thank you sweetheart! I guess I wouldn’t have a pet even if allowed : I am always moving around – pets love their routine.

      Yes, I have my window opened right now, and haven’t heard any noise from outside at least 20 minutes:) Pity I don’t have any writing talent – I would have written volumes in no time 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for your comment, Alisa! I was a bit overburdened with assignments last week 🙂 Now I am catching up with all the wonderful blog posts I have missed.
      I used to live in Waterford: I left in 2007. Still have a few good buddies here :). I love the quietness of my place, but some things changed to the worse – probably everywhere.
      Alisa, my reading is often a detective novel, but I am a strong believer that it is better to read a good detective every day than read nothing 🙂 I am buying Kindle books and then read them one by one as on the list. Many good authors here on WordPress too:). I never finish my reading list because I am constantly adding books to it 🙂 Thank you for stopping by and reading!

  14. Very nice. I’m going camera shopping in the next week or so. Do you have any recommendations? Nothing too expensive or sophistcated, but I might want a bit of a zoom lense. A kind of “babies first camera” for a grown man.

    1. John, when you buy your first camera, use the kit lens that comes with the camera. After a year of shooting you will overgrow it and then you will know enough to make a choice of your next lens. Kit lenses in good hands can do anything. Another thing – there are cat and dog lovers, and there are Nikon and Canon shooters:) How can I give you an advice without taking sides:)

      1. I likely will go with a Nikon or Canon, one that comes with a zoom lense. But what is a kit lens? Do you buy that seperately? I purchased a Fuji camera last week from Amazon with a zoom lense but the software would only load on Vista or XP and I have Windows 8 so I sent it back. Lesson learned. I will go to a camera store like I should have done in the first place.

        1. My first digital camera was fuji finepix, I got it in 2003 or 2004. It was a bridge camera, you can check them out in Amazon. It was fantastic for a digital beginner. Fuji colors are the best. I was able to take all sorts of pictures with it, from closeups to landscapes – the only thing that slowed me down was 3 megapixels, but you can do a lot even with 3 megapixels composition-wise anyway. You can learn. When I overgrew my Fuji I got a Nikon D90, a very good camera. I don’t know how much they cost now, these cameras. It is still good. After that I got a full frame Nikon D700. You can google the images taken with both of these cameras: it is not the gear that matters. Every photographer is in the state of learning, always. There will always be somebody who is better than you. What really matters is your inner culture, and being yourself. ” It is better to fail in originality than succeed in imitation” 🙂

            1. Let me know when you make up your mind. It is all about price – all the DSLR are good cameras unless there is a known glitch ( read the reviews in Amazon). Keep in mind you will want more different lenses in the future 🙂 It is an addictive hobby 🙂

  16. I had a cactus once. Once… I’m really not good with plants. I thought the cactus would make it. Cats are easier. Anyway, I love the down to earth atmosphere, and regarding earthly colors, I learned to appreciate more than black and blue recently. I admit to liking purple, due to the stunning purple flowers that appear in some of my photos, and the colors of sunset of course. But more so, taking pictures of my tabby cat made me appreciate the beauty in browns, off-whites, and grays 🙂

      Sorry for your cactus. It happens, I too have one sick cactus. I have been trying to save him some 4 years. Don’t know if he lives to see the spring.
