What is street photography? Almost everything! Photographing street scenes, public events and human characters; landmarks and architecture, urban environment, transportation… Plus colors, patterns, shadows… Simply everything.
People walk in the streets, but they also do many other things. They sell and buy stuff, sometimes quite amazing, like this green cat…
… or this hand-made jewelry. Well, the sellers can be remarkable too.
This young man is not texting. He is reading. Not good for the sales, but good for him. I took this picture because of the color arrangement: red parasol and hoodie – blond hair and wooden kitchenware.
More amazing stuff, and the artist himself is a character.
Street vendors in NYC are not different from their colleagues in the rest of the world. It is an old photograph – I wonder if anything has changed.
People also perform in the streets. I already posted about the street performers in Dublin. This guy was spotted in Belfast.
That’s NYC again.
Tall Ships festival in Waterford.
Dublin Pride – this girl came all the way from Brasil. A spectator in his underpants could be from anywhere – could be a time travelling gone wrong…
This band was actually brilliant, but the streets were empty: beach party in progress.
This guy is a reggae musician Cian Finn. I had no idea when I spotted him in Cork and asked for a photograph. Things happen 🙂
People use electronic devices in the streets.
People sometimes cook in the streets.
People are generally friendly and happy. They pose if asked nicely.
People chat with strangers.
Unhappy people protest, usually peacefully…
… or use electronic devices…
Some people stay in the streets most of their time.
Some people own terrific cars and look darn cool, like this Italian policeman. In 2004, Lamborghini donated two Lamborghini Gallardo police cars to the Polizia di Stato on their 152nd anniversary. On the 31st November 2009 one of these 165,000-euro cars was badly damaged in a collision near the northern Italian town of Cremona where it was on display at a student jobs fair. It was repaired in January 2010. I took this photograph of the famous Lamborghinis in Tivoli in March 2010, and consider myself very lucky for being in the right place at the right time 🙂
Some people own bikes, like this shiny one. I was circling around it long enough to get arrested 🙂
Some people just wait for their bus.
Most of people walk…
… and cast shadows if the day is sunny.
Most of the days are not sunny here, it is why I am posting a sad song for you: Johnny Cash – Streets of Laredo.

What a perfectly delightful array of street photos here, Inese. Lots of unique variety from the Italian policeman with the Lamb. to the man on stilts. It’s truly fascinating to see all these photos, and each one is terrific — but my favorite is the reggae musician with the crow. Great post Inese. 😀

Thank you so much for your comment! I don’t have as wide a variety of wild animals around as you have in Africa, so I am hunting humans, sometimes 😉

You had some nice examples of Humans in front of your camera.
Good they survived, compared to other hunters.

I love to watch people.
Somtimes I go to railwaystation Amsterdam Central just to watch the people passing by.
With a cup of coffe in my hands I watch the traffic hours at the station.
Gives me a restfull feeling.

Thank you so much! I have never heard of him either – a younger friend opened my eyes after seeing the picture 🙂 I had no idea whom I talked to, he was just a guy sitting in the grass and eating his cookies 🙂 A crow was trying to steal his food, and it was so funny that I asked for a picture. Just another case of luck 🙂

How beautiful you took us through this journey with you. It was like watching a movie with narrative. My favorite category of photography is street photography, and you were able to explain why so perfectly with your writing here. I love what you captured across the world, and what caught your eye. I once started a project that I only made it partially through, 100 portraits. It was a way to get out of my comfort zone and really learn to talk to people and use my camera. It’s hard to ask random strangers for a photo, but you are right. If you ask very nicely … 🙂

Thank you so much for your comment, Alisa! So, what about your project? Do you have some of these portraits on your blog somewhere? Would be great to see them – I am sure they are excellent as everything you do. What I think – our life is too short as we all know, so, if I really, really like a close up photograph of somebody in the street, I will ask for it and won’t miss my chance and regret later. Right ? 🙂
Thank you again for taking time to visit! Have a wonderful week!

Fabulous photos and post Inese. Loved the Irish harp and reggae video music. And being a JC fan, also the Streets of Laredo, which I hadn’t heard before. But I’m hugely impressed with both your memory/and or filing system to be able to put together a post like this of images from several years back, all with a similar theme…
Have a sunny outlook week, even if it rains…like it looks like it will here…

A remarkable portfolio, Inese. Cian Finn was an amazing discovery. When walking over Westminster Bridge I am sometimes asked by tourists to take their photos.

Thank you for reading, Derrick! Some tourists ask me too 🙂 Once I met a young couple in the middle of a bluebell woods, and they asked me for a picture 🙂 Most of the times I ask for a photograph myself, especially if I see a lovely couple – single strangers are less cooperative, but I had been lucky on a few occasions 🙂 People are lovely in general, aren’t they.
